The little town that once was - Sagamore, PA

Right over the hill from me is a town that once was iconic of this area in its time. This area was founded upon the rich coal deposits Pennsylvania hides deep within. People flocked to the area for the abundance of jobs that were available and Sagamore is one of the towns that sprung up due to the importance coal had in fueling the Industrial Revolution.
I was also discussing the fact that Sagamore once had the worlds largest coal tipple with a friend, so I decided to make my first blog post about it. Thats a picture of it there circa 1910. That picture comes from Sagamore Page on AOL . That site has alot of information and a lot more pictures of Sagamore, including a few pictures of the Sagamore Hotel that burned completely to the ground a couple of years ago.

Brian, Great first blog. No problem on using the pictures off my pages. I am glad that they have been some help. I am always looking for new/old pictures to add and if you come across any that are not on mine I would appreciate being able to add them. When I get a chance Ill add you link to your backwoods if that is ok.

It would be great if you add a link to my blog. As for finding any pictures, yours are about the only ones I have ever seen, from that time period at least. I’ll try to keep adding new post as much as possible, so check back. They won’t necessarily be about Sagamore or this area in general though.
